As I say each new year, I’m not good at making lists of favorites. My memory simply doesn’t store things that way. Maybe due to one too many Manhattans on any given night. But here is my attempt at my faves from 2011.

Favorite Albums

Juicy J & Lex Luger - “Rubbaband Business 2”
When this mixtape came out I must have listened to it for a week straight. Its just straight up banging party music filled with drugs, sex and inappropriate language, made by the biggest producer of 2011 Lex Lugar and legendary Juicy J. TRIPPY MANE.

M83 - “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming”
A double disc album by M83? YES please. M83 progresses his cinematic sound even further, incorporating some new sounds and instruments, complete with a few really catchy songs. Great album for driving or chillin around the house.

Terius Nash - “1977”
The Dream is one of my favorite producers/song writers and I’m glad he decided to release a new album under his own name. Its not as legendary as some of his earlier stuff but a very solid album from the king of RnB (in my opinion!). If you haven’t heard The Dream before check this out to see where The Weeknd comes from. By the way it was released for free.

Drake - “Take Care”
It was good to see Drake get back to business on “Take Care”. I wasn’t the biggest fan of “Thank Me Later”, though it has some serious bangers on it. “Take Care” seems like the most logical progression from his smash mixtape “So Far Gone”, which is the Drake I like. Album artwork was a bit of a pause though!

Jay Z & Kanye West - “Watch the Throne”
The sound of two friends having fun making music. Complete with what probably is the most fail-proof song you could play at a club: “N——- in Paris”.

Australian Tour Week 4 & Final May Giveaway

What a weekend, it all started last Wednesday at the launch party for The Dip (which you definitely should check out) after which I did a throwback hip hop set at The Flinders with my man Kato. Fun was had by all and lots of drinking definitely set the tone for the rest of the weekend.

Thursday I hit Onefiveone in Wollongong. I had no idea what to expect but it ended up being completely mental. We got 1300 through the door and the people up against the DJ booth managed to tear the plexi-glass off of it! What a night!

Friday I was at Platinum in Gold Coast, what a nice club and full of a zillion hot girls. Crowd was awesome and on point. The fellas from the club took good care of me and I left rather drunk! Unfortunately didn’t get any pics.

Saturday was my final Australian show at Monastery in Brisbane. Before the gig I went to see Nina Las Vegas and Aston Shuffle at another show, then Sampology down the block before my set. Finally made it to Monastery, I love this venue, great sound system and great layout. Crowd was bonkers and I had such a blast, ended up doing a hip hop set at 5am, not sure why it just kind of happened!

Monday back in Sydney I did Heaps Decent again this time at Redfern Community Centre and worked with some really talented young MC’s and an aspiring dubstep producer. We had a great afternoon and got some cool material done. Big shout to everyone at Heaps Decent!

All my Aussie gigs are over, off to New Zealand this week for Wellington and Auckland, then back to the states. Its been amazing and I’m sad to leave but I’ve been here for over a month!

Australian Tour Week 3

This past Saturday saw the final show of the amazing Groovin the Moo festival tour. Every show sold completely out and each city was just as amazing as the next! Thanks to everyone who came out and rocked with us, it was a great experience.

Friday I played in Perth at Villa with my London-based buddy Mumdance. What an incredible night! Big up to Boomtick for being one of the best promoters to work with, Perth is always a huge highlight for me when I come to Australia. Check some photos here.

Groovin the Moo may be over but I still have shows in Wollongong, Gold Coast, and Brisbane this weekend, as well as New Zeland shows in Wellington and Auckland on 27th/28th.

Australian Tour Week 2

Weekend 2 of the tour was pretty much perfect. I love this country. Here’s a rundown.

Thursday night I returned to Adelaide to play a party called Almost Famous at Apple Bar. The club was packed and the drinks were flowing pretty endlessly resulting in an incredible fun and messy night! Check some photos here!

Next up was Maitland continuing the Groovin the Moo tour and I couldn’t have asked for a better crowd. I had so much fun playing and wished it didn’t have to end. So much energy in that tent!

Straight after Maitland we had to make our way back to Sydney for my gig at Chinese Laundry. Honestly this was one of the best and most insane shows I’ve had in a long time. HUGE thanks to everyone who was there going crazy. I can’t even believe how much fun that was. Hot, crowded, sweaty, and full of smiles and bass! More pics here!

After that it was minimal amounts of sleep and straight out for Groovin the Moo in Canberra. The same amazing sold out crowd as all the GTM shows have been despite the VERY cold weather!

First Weekend of Australian Tour

Just finished up my Triple J April residency and my first weekend of shows in Australia and it was a BIG one! Big shouts to everyone who came out to Roxanne in Melbourne. You can check some photos by inthemix here. Also made the world’s most disgusting sandwich at Subway which we documented. But I will post about that later.

Saturday and Sunday were the first two shows of the Groovin the Moo tour in Bendigo and Townsville which were absolutely crazy. Check out the sunburns in that pic! I even saw a 12 year old furiously shuffling up a storm.

Next stop: Adelaide Thursday, 5th May!
